Cookie policy

Last updated: 6 October 2026

This cookie policy explains the cookies and similar technologies used on the Scotch Whisky World website, what each one is for, how long it lasts and how you can control them. Please read it together with our Privacy policy.

What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files that a website stores in your browser. Similar technologies, such as your browser's local storage and session storage, store information in the same way. In this policy we call all of them cookies.

The cookies we use

All of our cookies are set by our own website. We do not use advertising cookies, social media cookies, or any third-party analytics or tracking.

We use two kinds of cookies:

• Strictly necessary cookies make the shop work. Without them you could not keep a basket, buy or stay signed in, so the law allows us to use them without asking for your consent.
• Analytics cookies help us understand how the shop is used, so that we can improve it. We only use them if you choose "Accept analytics cookies".

Strictly necessary cookies

• ws_cart: remembers what is in your basket. Lasts 2 days.
• ws_basket_v1 (session storage): keeps a copy of your basket in the browser tab, so that it shows straight away. Deleted when you close the tab.
• ws_buynow: keeps a "Buy now" purchase separate from your basket, so that buying one bottle straight away does not disturb the basket you were filling. Lasts 30 minutes.
• ws_buynow_ready: gets "Buy now" ready when you point to or select the button, so that the checkout opens quickly. Lasts 30 minutes.
• ws_session: keeps you signed in to your account. Lasts 90 days, or until you sign out.
• ws_consent: remembers your cookie choice, so that we do not ask you on every visit. Lasts 6 months.
• ws_staff: signs our staff in to the shop's reporting dashboard. It is never set for customers, and is deleted when the browser is closed.

Analytics cookies, only if you accept them

• ws_aid: a random reference for your browser, so that repeat visits are not counted as new visitors. Lasts 13 months.
• ws_analytics_session (local storage): a random reference for your current visit. It ends after 30 minutes without activity, or at midnight.

These record the pages and products viewed, searches made in the shop and the steps taken through the basket and checkout. They do not record your name, e-mail address, delivery address or payment details, and searches that look like an e-mail address or telephone number are discarded. The information is kept for 13 months and then deleted.

If you reject analytics cookies, or withdraw your consent later, both are deleted, and nothing more is recorded about your visits apart from an anonymous note of the choice itself.

Payment pages

When you pay, you are taken to the secure payment page of our payment provider, Cashflows, or to PayPal if you choose to pay that way. Those pages are run by Cashflows and PayPal and may set their own cookies, which are needed to take your payment and prevent fraud. Those cookies are covered by Cashflows' and PayPal's own policies.

How to manage cookies

You can accept or reject analytics cookies when you first visit our website, and change your choice at any time here or with "Cookie settings" at the foot of every page:

You can also block or delete cookies in your browser's settings. If you block strictly necessary cookies, parts of the shop, such as the basket, the checkout and your account, will not work.

Changes to this policy

If we change the cookies we use, we will update this policy and, where needed, ask for your choice again. The date at the top shows when it was last changed.
